– Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians IPL 2022 Highlights: MI made an incredible comeback to beat GT by 5 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians IPL 2022 Highlights: The Mumbai Indians made a brilliant fightback towards the ending stages of the game to defeat Gujarat Titans by five runs in IPL 2022 on Thursday. Defending a 178-run target, the MI made a poor start with the ball as the duo of Shubman Gill (52) and Wriddhiman Saha (55) added 106 runs for the first wicket.

However, Ashwin's twin-wicket over, where he dismissed both batters turned the tide in MI's favour as no batter from Gujarat could forge a rebuild. Hardik Pandya (22) and Rahul Tewatia (3) were both run out in key moments in the game and Daniel Sams bowled a brilliant final over, as he defended 9 runs in 6 balls to secure a five-run win for MI.

GT vs MI: Rohit praises Daniel Sams “It's important to back the skills you have. Sams was under the pump in a couple of games but I know the quality he has. It's important to back those guys. We are trying to maintain the same squad how much ever possible. Daniel Sams was brilliant.”

GT vs MI: Daniel Sams on the final over “9 off 6 is one of those ones.. I just kind of look at it as I have nothing to lose here, probably the odds are in the batters favour, so I thought I will stick to my best ball and lucky enough I was able to keep it inside the wide line. Viewing it from the outside it will probably look like that (gutsy), but for me I was just trying to stick to my best ball, the slower ball is something I go-to and happy it paid off.”

ROHIT, ISHAN FIRE Rohit Sharma has been in poor form this season. Before Friday, he had scored only 188 runs from 10 matches at an average of 20.89. He started well with a fluent 41 against Delhi Capitals and looked good against Lucknow Super Giants when he scored 39 but overall, it has been a horror campaign.

What has made matters so complicated for MI is Rohit Sharma's own form, Ishan Kishan's torrid season after a good start and lack of wickets from Jasprit Bumrah. However, MI secured their first win of the season in their ninth match against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on April 30 and now look more confident than they have been all through the tournament.

Rohit Sharma has not often brought his best form to the IPL for MI. Last year, he scored 381 runs and managed only one fifty. In 2020, when MI made it to the final, Rohit scored 332 runs at 27.66. His best year at the IPL cam in 2013 when he scored 538 runs from 19 matches. However, Rohit's run of form was more concerning this year because of India's performances in the T20 World Cup last year and another T20 World Cup scheduled a few months from now.

On Friday, Rohit Sharma showed why he is among the most destructive batters in the shorter formats and took on GT pacer Alzarri Joseph who had made his IPL impact with Mumbai Indians in 2019. Rohit added 74 for the opening wicket with Ishan Kishan before missing the line in an attempt to reverse sweep Rashid Khan for 43. A loud appeal for LBW was turned down but the on-field umpire reversed his decision after Hardik Pandya opted for the DRS.
